John Baumgardner

John Baumgardner

Geophysicist
Biografía
John earned a doctorate in geophysics for the express purpose of addressing the tectonics issues of the Genesis Flood at a professional level.  For his Ph.D. thesis he developed a 3D mantle dynamics program known as Terra.  As research scientist for 20  years at Los Alamos National Laboratory he used computer modeling to explore and develop the concept of catastrophic plate tectonics as a primary mechanism behind the Flood.  Also while at Los Alamos, John assisted the German Weather Service in applying modeling techniques used with Terra to the task of developing their next-generation global weather forecast model.  This model, named GME, became the German operational global forecast model in 2000, and is currently used in more than 20 countries.  John further applied his expertise in numerical methods in the development of Mendel’s Accountant, a population genetics program for modeling mutation and selection.  Current research includes the refinement of Terra to accommodate much stronger  variations in rock strength and thereby achieve greater fidelity in modeling the runaway aspects of the Flood cataclysm.

Leonard Brand

Leonard Brand

Biólogo, Paleontólogo y Autor
Biografía

He is a Seventh-day Adventist creationist biologist, paleontologist, and author and the chair professor of Loma Linda University Department of Earth and Biological Sciences.

As a Creationist, he teaches interventionism, a view of history that holds that there is intelligent intervention in history. His desire for respectful dialogue has been welcomed by advocates on both sides of the creation–evolution controversy. He challenges his fellow creationists to use caution when making scientific claims.

As a research scientist, his findings are published in various peer-reviewed journals. His most widely debated research was regarding fossil tracks at the Grand Canyon. He has a PhD in biology from Cornell University, received in 1970 when working for LLU La Sierra campus.

As geologist and paleontologist my interests relate to the history of sedimentary basins and the fossils within the rocks I am currently studying the sedimentary layers of the Pisco Basin in southern Peru where a thick succession of strata was deposited in a mostly shallow marine environment. There, I have several lines of research · Many of the layers contain well preserved fossils of marine mammals (baleen whales, dolphins, seals, sea lions), sharks, fish, and invertebrates. I am studying the fossilization processes that led to preservation of the fossils. · The marine mammal fossils are very abundant. It is the largest known accumulation of fossil marine mammals in the world. One of my goals is to explain why so many specimens died, were buried and became preserved in the rocks. · I am studying the lithology, and stratigraphy of the succession of layers to understand the sequence of events and processes that led to the accumulation of the sediments in the ancient marine environment. · I am paying special attention to the ichnofossils (trace fossils) in the layers, as they provide important insights on the ancient conditions of the marine environment. This research is carried out in collaboration with other researchers and students.
